The discovery of a body believed to be Julian Ingram in remote bushland in western New South Wales has marked a significant development in a months-long investigation linked to a deadly triple shooting that shocked Australia earlier this year. Authorities say the remains were located in a secluded area near an abandoned vehicle, bringing renewed attention to one of the state’s most intensive manhunts.
According to the New South Wales Police Force, human remains were found in the Round Hill Nature Reserve, approximately 50 kilometers northwest of Lake Cargelligo. Police reported that the body was discovered in a highly decomposed state beside a firearm. While formal identification is still pending, investigators believe the remains are those of 37-year-old Julian Ingram.
Ingram had been the subject of a large-scale search operation since January 22, following allegations that he carried out a fatal shooting spree in Lake Cargelligo. Police allege he killed his pregnant former partner Sophie Quinn, her new partner John Harris, and Quinn’s aunt Nerida Quinn. A fourth victim, 19-year-old Kaleb Macqueen, survived the attack after being seriously wounded.
Following the incident, Ingram allegedly fled the scene, prompting an extensive and coordinated manhunt across rural and remote regions of central western New South Wales. The search effort involved hundreds of officers, including tactical police units, homicide detectives, drone surveillance teams, and aerial support. Over several months, authorities combed through farmland, dense bushland, and national parks in an effort to locate him.
The recent discovery was made by National Parks and Wildlife Service workers conducting routine operations in the reserve. Police have described the location as extremely remote, which may explain why the remains were not found earlier despite extensive search efforts in surrounding regions.
Assistant Commissioner Andrew Holland described the discovery as a turning point in the case, offering a sense of closure for investigators and the Lake Cargelligo community, which has endured months of uncertainty and fear since the violent incident.
Authorities have confirmed that forensic testing will be conducted on the firearm found near the body, as well as on the remains, to establish a formal identification and determine the exact cause of death. At this stage, police have not confirmed how Ingram died, and investigations remain ongoing.
The case has also drawn scrutiny regarding prior bail conditions and domestic violence-related charges that Ingram was facing at the time of the alleged shootings. Officials have confirmed that reviews into earlier legal and policing decisions are continuing alongside the homicide investigation.
